我有明珠一颗,久被尘劳关锁,今朝尘尽光生,照破山河万朵。 --- 柴陵郁禅师
Translation:
I have a pearl. It has been sealed long in the dusts of the mundane world.
Today the dusts are all gone. Lights of the bead shines out and far into thousands of mountains and rivers. --- Chai Lin Yu Zen Master
This poem was written by Chai Lin Yu Master in Song Dynasty (around 11th century). One day he was on a donkey crossing a bridge. The donkey tripped over, and Chai Master fell to the ground. When he stood up on feet, he spoke the above poem - a poem disclosed he's got the enlightenment.
The precious pearl refers to the Spirit (True Self). The Spirit is originally free but it has been locked. Dusts from the mundane world are like greed, resentment, ignorance, envy judgements... which blocks the light of wisdom from the Spirit.
If Spirit is not awake or enlightened, the complexity of world matters can be burdens and shackles to it. When the Spirit wakes up (like Chai Master), the world matters will no longer bury wisdom. Wisdom will shed light into the world matters in return.
Every person has a precious pearl. My friend, are you aware of this fact? Are you on a journey to wake up and break out from the dusts?
